Indocyanine green angiography is a supplementary examination for fluorescein angiography, mostly used in cases of retinal degeneration which are difficult to diagnose. Before the examination, the patient receives an intravenous contrast medium (indocyanine green); then, a series of black and white photographs of the eye fundus are taken. The examination should not be performed in pregnant women, or subjects with hypersensitivity to iodides or hepatic impairment. The examination lasts about 1.5 hours (together with the administration of a contrast agent and pupildilating drops) .
